Helen Allbutt is Research Governance Lead at NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and has over 20 years experience of working in research in a variety of educational, academic, clinical and voluntary settings. She has been involved in setting up R&D strategies both for NES and, more recently, for the RCN. She has been a member of the UK’s RCN Research and Development Governance Group for the past 3 years. Helen is a peer reviewer for work undertaken within NES and for the Institute of Research and Innovation in Social Services (IRISS) as well as for several academic journals including the Sociology of Health and Illness. She has extensive experience in mentoring and supervising students undertaking research for higher degrees. Her main research interests lie in the sociology of education and health care. Helen has been a member of the SMERC MERE Group since its inception.
