Alisdair Smithies is a PhD student, supervised by SMERC members Prof. Charlotte Rees, Prof. Jean Ker and Dr. Peter Johnston. His study examines transitions in the early years of postgraduate medical training. The aim is to address the gap in current literature about support for professionals transitioning into and out of workplace learning environments, exploring aspects of culture, social and organisational support, which have an effect upon professional socialisation processes. Alisdair previously worked as a research associate in technology enhanced learning.
